ZINC SMELTER IMPACTS CHARACTERIZATION AND RECLAMATION
I worked on, and led teams taht provided design and construction oversight for extensive large-scale soil sampling and remediation programs at the National, Blackwell and Collinsville Zinc Sites in Oklahoma. These large scale programs required collection of over 16,000 soil and sediment samples from all residential/recreational, commercial/industrial (C/I) and alleyway properties within the proximity of former zinc smelters, which ultimately lead to clean-up (i.e., soil removal and replacement) of a large industrial complex in Blackwell, Oklahoma; over 1,200 residential properties, 30 C/I properties and 100 alleyways in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and various remote private land areas in Collinsville, Oklahoma. This work involved extensive planning and interactions with a large number of sampling crews, as well as property owners and regulatory officials; development and implementation of quality assurance/quality control procedures; coordination of all laboratory work; data management and analysis; and development of cost estimates to continuously project the extent of remedial action requirements.
