WARM SPRINGS PONDS

The Warm Springs Ponds (WSPs) Operable Units of the Silver Bow Creek/Butte Area Superfund Site are located east of Anaconda, Montana. The WSPs are located on the lower (northernmost) reach of Silver Bow Creek, and occupy 2,300 acres that was previously the natural channel and flood plain of Silver Bow Creek. Mill and Willow Creeks are tributaries of Silver Bow Creek. Silver Bow Creek flows enter the WSP system for eventual discharge into a constructed bypass channel. The lower end of the bypass channel merges with the Clark Fork River below the WSPs and below the mouth of Warm Springs Creek. Lime addition to Silver Bow Creek above the WSPs was begun in the mid 1960's. Lime addition was later established at the inlet to Pond 3 to aid the natural biologic precipitation of dissolved metals in the WSP system.

I worked as a Project Manager, helping the WSP team with wildlife habitat certification, community outreach, data management, water treatment technical review and data analysis, health and safety initiatives, impoundment risk analysis, and dam safety and related civil engineering projects.
